Kindy and Pre Primary Education Support Program

Meadow Springs Education Support Centre (ESC) embraces early intervention for all students with special needs. The programs offered at our school focus on building a student’s communication and social skills as well as their self-esteem, in a supportive environment.

Our early childhood programs are based on current evidence-based, best practice strategies. The delivery of these programs in each classroom is designed to suit the learning needs of the individual students and are based on the National Curriculum implemented in all schools across Western Australia.

Our Early Childhood Program aims to develop early skills in relation to gross motor and fine motor skills, language/speech and communication, independence, self-esteem, self-management and resilience, age-appropriate social interactions, foundation academic skills and purposeful play leading to increased positive social interactions.

Our Early Childhood Program consists of 5 days per fortnight for Kindy (e.g. Mon/Tues or Thurs/Fri, with an alternating fortnightly Wednesday) and 5 full days per week for Pre-Primary. Students access the curriculum areas of English, Mathematics, Health & Wellbeing and Sustainability, supported by their classroom Teacher and Education Assistants.

Our staff are trained in delivering curriculum through structured teaching strategies using the TEACCH program, developing communication including AAC (Augmentative and Assistive Communication) systems and devices, developing personalised plans to promote sensory and emotional regulation, Protective Behaviours education, and developing strong reliable routines/structures for learning, with explicit use of visual supports.

At the conclusion of the early childhood programs, some children continue their education at the ESC, while others are supported to transition and move into a mainstream school setting.

Our Early Childhood classrooms are located at Meadow Springs Education Support Centre on the Meadow Springs Primary School site.
